The Prophecy of St. Francis About a Future Pope
"At the time of this tribulation a man, not canonically elected, will be raised to the Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavor to draw many into error and death"

1. The time is fast approaching in which there will be great trials and
afflictions; perplexities and dissensions, both spiritual and temporal,
will abound; the charity of many will grow cold, and the malice of the
wicked will increase.
2. The devils will have unusual power, the immaculate purity of our
Order, and of others, will be so much obscured that there will be very
few Christians who will obey the true Sovereign Pontiff and the Roman
Church with loyal hearts and perfect charity. At the time of this
tribulation a man, not canonically elected, will be raised to the
Pontificate, who, by his cunning, will endeavor to draw many into error
and death.
3. Then scandals will be multiplied, our Order will be divided, and
many others will be entirely destroyed, because they will consent to
error instead of opposing it.
4. There will be such diversity of opinions and schisms among the
people, the religious and the clergy, that, except those days were
shortened, according to the words of the Gospel, even the elect would
be led into error, were they not specially guided, amid such great
confusion, by the immense mercy of God.
5. Then our Rule and manner of life will be violently opposed by some,
and terrible trials will come upon us. Those who are found faithful
will receive the crown of life; but woe to those who, trusting solely
in their Order, shall fall into tepidity, for they will not be able to
support the temptations permitted for the proving of the elect.
6. Those who preserve in their fervor and adhere to virtue with love
and zeal for the truth, will suffer injuries and, persecutions as
rebels and schismatics; for their persecutors, urged on by the evil
spirits, will say they are rendering a great service to God by
destroying such pestilent men from the face of the earth. but the Lord
will be the refuge of the afflicted, and will save all who trust in
Him. And in order to be like their Head, [Christ] these, the elect,
will act with confidence, and by their death will purchase for
themselves eternal life; choosing to obey God rather than man, they
will fear nothing, and they will prefer to perish rather than consent
to falsehood and perfidy.
7. Some preachers will keep silence about the truth, and others will
trample it under foot and deny it. Sanctity of life will be held in
derision even by those who outwardly profess it, for in those days

(These prophecies were made by 1820 by Anna Katarina Emmerick (Anne
Emerich), a stigmatized Augustinian nun who bore the wounds of Christ on
her body and who lived many years solely on the Holy Communion until
she died. She was given many visions of our Blessed Lord and Lady including
their earthly lives, printed into books. Her life and the following prophecies
were recorded in The Life of Anne Catherine Emmerich by Rev. Carl Schmoeger,
C.SS.R., published in English in 1870 and reprinted in 1968 by Maria Regina

THE FALSE ECUMENICAL, HERETICAL CHURCH ESTABLISHED IN ROME
"I saw also the relationship between two popes ... I saw how baleful would be the consequences of this false church. I saw it increase in size; heretics of every kind came into the city of Rome. The local clergy grew lukewarm, and I saw a great darkness...
"I had another vision of the great tribulation. It seems to me that a concession was demanded from the clergy which could not be granted. I saw many older priests, especially one, who wept bitterly. A few younger ones were also weeping. But others, and the lukewarm among them, readily did what was demanded. It was as if people were splitting into two camps. (Conservative and Liberal Catholics)
"I saw that many pastors allowed themselves to be taken up with ideas that were dangerous to the Church. They were building a great, strange, and extravagant Church. Everyone was to be admitted in it in order to be united and have equal rights: Evangelicals, Catholics, sects of every description. Such was to be the new Church ... But God had other designs."
"I saw again the strange big church that was being built there in Rome. There was nothing holy in it. I saw this just as I saw a movement led by Ecclesiastics to which contributed angels, saints, and other Christians. But there in the strange big church all the work was being done mechanically according to set rules and formulae. Everything was being done according to human reason ...I saw all sorts of people, things, doctrines, and opinions. There was something proud, presumptuous, and violent about it, and they seemed very successful. I di not see a single Angel nor a single saint helping in the work. But far away in the background, I saw the seat of the cruel people armed with spears, and I saw a laughing figure which said: " Do build it as solid as you can; we will pull it to the ground."
"I saw again the new and odd-looking church which they were trying to build. There was nothing holy about it ... People were kneading bread in the crypt below ... but it would not rise, nor did they receive the body of our Lord, but only bread. Those who were in error, through no fault of their own, and who piously and ardently longed for the Body of Jesus were spiritually consoled, but not by their communion. Then my Guide (Jesus) said: "This is Babel.(1)"
"I saw deplorable things: they were gambling, drinking, and talking in church; they were also courting women. All sorts of abominations were perpetrated there. Priests allowed everything and said Mass with much irreverence. I saw that few of them were still godly... All these things caused me much distress. "
"Nature demands vengeance against
men,
and she trembles with fright in expectation to what will befall the
earth
sullied with crimes. Tremble, O earth! And tremble you also who make
profession
of serving Jesus Christ, but inwardly worship yourselves because God
has
delivered you to his enemies, because corruption is in holy
places.
"In the year 1865 the abomination shall be seen in Holy Places, in Convents, and then the demon shall make himself as the king of hearts. It will be about that time that Antichrist shall be born. At his birth he shall vomit blasphemies. He shall have teeth; in a word, he shall be like an incarnate demon; he shall utter frightful screams; he shall work prodigies; and he shall feed on impure things. He shall have brothers who though not incarnate demons like him, shall nevertheless be children of iniquity. At the age of twelve years they shall have become remarkable for valiant victories, which they shall achieve; very soon each of them will be at the head of armies. Paris shall be burned, and Marseilles shall be submerged; many great cities shall be shattered and swallowed up by earthquakes. The populace will believe that everything is lost, will see nothing but murder, and will hear only the clang of arms and sacrilegious blasphemies.
''I address a pressing appeal to the earth. I call upon the true Disciples of the Living God, Who reigns in the Heavens; I call upon the True Imitators of Christ made Man, the Only true Savior of mankind; I call upon My children, those who are truly devoted to Me, those who have offered themselves to me that I may lead them to My Son, those whom I carry as it were in My arms, those who have been animated by My Spirit. Finally, I call on the Apostles of these Last Days, these faithful Disciples of Jesus Christ, who have lived despising the world and themselves, in poverty and humility, in contempt and in, I silence, in prayer and mortification in chastity and union with God, in suffering and unknown to the world. It is time for them to come out and enlighten the World. Go ye forth and manifest yourselves as My darling children; I am with you and within you, so that your Faith may be light which illumines You in these unhappy days, and that your zeal may make you
long for the Glory and Honor of the Most High. Fight, ye children of light; combat, ye small band that can see, for this is the time of times, the end of ends.
"The seasons of the year will change, the earth will produce only bad fruits, the stars will depart from their regular course, the moon will give only a weak, reddish light. Water and fire in the interior of the earth will rage violently and cause terrible earthquakes, whereby mountains and cities will sink into the depths. Earthquakes will also devour whole countries. Together with the Antichrist the demons will work great false miracles on earth and in the air. Voices will be heard in the air. Then men will desert Religion and become worse and worse. Men will let themselves be deceived because they refused to adore the real Christ Who lives bodily amongst them. Woe to the inhabitants of the earth. Bloody wars, famines pestilence and contagious diseases will develop. Terrible rain and hail will come with animals falling from the Heavens thunder and lightning burning down entire cities. The whole
universe will be gripped by fear. Finally the sun will be dark, and Faith
alone will give light.
"A certain precursor of Antichrist, together with his followers from many nations, will fight the real Christ, the only Savior of the World. He will endeavor to eliminate the adoration of God in order to be considered as God himself. Much blood will flow. Then the earth will be visited by all kinds of blows, from constant wars until the last war which finally will be made by the ten kings of the Antichrist.
"During the time of the arrival of Antichrist, the Gospel will be preached everywhere, and all Peoples and Nations then recognize the Truth.
"Rome will lose the faith and become the seat of Antichrist. Yet the Heathen Rome will disappear. See, here is the Beast with its subjects that claims to be the Savior of the world. Proudly it rises in the air to go straight to Heaven, but it will be strangled by the Archangel Michael and cast down. And the earth, which for the past three days was in continuous Convulsions opens her fiery jaws and swallows him with all his cohorts forever into its hellish abyss. Eventually will water and fire cleanse the earth and the works of human pride will be destroyed and all will be renewed Then will all serve God and glorify Him.
